I remember when I was a music director for Bearcast, and was always bombarded by artists trying to give me their music. It was understandable because it’s a dog eat dog world out there and everybody’s on their hustle. Every now and then, you come across an artist where you hear their story and music and you feel like you owe them something.
I’m not a music director for Bearcast anymore, but that’s exactly how I felt when I came across Ceschi. I just listened to his album on Bandcamp, and it was simply amazing. Listening to stuff like this is why I’m such a fanboy of the underground hip hop scene. When you get to his band camp site, I highly suggest to listen to his latest album “Broken Bone Ballads”.
This album is VERY experimental hip hop. Each track you listen to is different than the last one. My favorite from the album is “This Won’t Last Forever”, where Ceschi gives his story about the legal troubles he’s been through. Not only the tracks got me hooked to this album, but the title itself. Here’s what he said about the meaning of the album title:
Broken Bone Ballads, the fourth LP from New Haven, Connecticut’s Ceschi Ramos, was written from the perspective of a man battling in court for over three years and anticipating a prison sentence while trying to maintain an indie record label and pay bills as a working musician out on bond. The album draws its title from a 2007 arm wrestling match with a Marine at a house party in Hawaii that left Ceschi with a spiral fracture of the humerus.
That story alone, just made me want to buy this album. I certainly did, no playing here. Ceschi is that starving artist you want to root for, and get behind. I certainly did, and so should you. If there’s anytime to support the indie’s, it’s this guy.
